Control Your PC with Jumi Mouse

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

JumiMouse Plus enables near total control of your PC. For Windows machines a user can control the mouse, enter text, or take over other programs. JumiMouse works well at working as a touch-mouse remote for a computer, which is an ideal way to control things such as media playback or simple scrolling. Getting started involves both downloading the iPhone app from the App Store as well as a free download from the JumiTech web site . There is a scroll bar on the right side of the screen for quickly scrolling through pages. There are two types of keyboards for entering text; the standard iPhone keyboard or a Windows-centric that fills the entire screen. Keep Your Brain Hopping with Frogiz Puzzle Logic

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

It’s always refreshing to find a good puzzle game burried in the App Store that is both unique and fun to play. Frogiz may not be on your radar, but if you enjoy puzzles it’s worth a look. Similar to Fling! , but with its own unique objective and more layered, Frogiz features a 5 x 5 grid with pink and green frogs and round and square lillypads. The objective is to clear the grid by manipulating the frogs and lillypads in accordance to the game rules. Frogiz is a truly whimsical logic puzzle game. It’s premise is simple, but the puzzles are increasingly difficult to reason out. Teach Me Sushi, For Those Who Dare to Learn

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

Being somewhat challenged in the art of culinary preparation, I tend to keep an eye out for cooking and recipe apps that I find helpful but not too challenging. I’ve been through a plethora of free and paid apps in all manners and styles of food, recipes and so on, but would never have dared to seek out help with sushi. I know it’s not trendy to detest sushi, but I do. It looks pretty on a tray, but I can’t stomach the raw fish part. That said, after a run through of the Teach Me Sushi app, I have a strong desire to try making it whether I’d eat it or not. Teach Me Sushi is a comprehensive guide to making several types of sushi (not all of which contain fish by the way) and features video presentation, step-by-step instructions and informative tid bits about these bite size munchies. It’[s actually an ancillary of a total “Teach Me Sushi” package that includes sushi-making parties for those who live in New York. If your kitchen is located outside the geographic scope of this company, the app is the next best thing.(…) Read the rest of Teach Me Sushi, For Those Who Dare to Learn All App Reviews © AppCraver.com, 2010. | Teach Me Sushi, For Those Who Dare to Learn | Best iPad Apps | Best Free Apps

Travel Interpreter an Excellent Translation Tool

Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

Travel Interpreter adds to the arsenal of apps for international travel with access to many of the key phrases one may need. Most likely the language you are looking for will be here, as choices include Spanish, French, Chinese, Arabic, Italian and Hebrew (23 in total). After selecting a language the categories are then divided by specific topics; such as hotel, shopping or beauty care. There is even a section detailing how to call the police and describe particular crimes. After picking a category there are sub-categories that get a bit more specific. After selecting one of these, tap on a phrase. Travel Interpreter includes audio of the phrase, an illustration of its meaning and the text (for some languages, such as Arabic, it is also written in phonetic English). Dots for Tots – On the Go Connect the Dots Fun

Wednesday, July 21st, 2010

The other day I was having lunch with friends who also happened to be parents of small children. While waiting for what seemed like an extraodinarily long time, I found myself whipping out my iPhone in an attempt to entertain the four-year-old munchkin beside me. Google Earth, Facebook, and Sporcle wasn’t exactly going  to do the trick, but since my own kids are far beyond preschool games, my library was a bit understocked at the time. It is times such as this that apps like Dots for Tots come in very handy indeed. From the makers of Color Me!!, which incidentally I enjoyed and tested out on the same four-year-old munchkin, Dots for Tots is a collection of simple dot-to-dot pages that include numbers, letters, shapes, and animals. Using the numbers 1 – 10 and the touchscreen interface of the iPhone, little fingers can trace and connect the dots to form the image. Granted, they have to be able to recognize numbers and know numerical order, but if they’ve mastered that skill, then you’re golden.(…) Read the rest of Dots for Tots – On the Go Connect the Dots Fun All App Reviews © AppCraver.com, 2010. | Dots for Tots – On the Go Connect the Dots Fun | Best iPad Apps | Best Free Apps

GetGlue is Social Networking for Media Addicts

Tuesday, July 20th, 2010

When I first came across GetGlue I thought, “Just what I need, another social network.” The last thing I wanted to do was open another social networking app from my iPhone and check in, “like” things and earn rewards. However, GetGlue can easily win one over with its addictive way to rate and review entertainment and lifestyle content. GetGlue works much like Foursquare by “checking in” to topics. But instead of locations you choose among movies, TV shows, music, books, video games, celebrities and, oddly enough, wine. Checkins earn stickers, again similar to the badges found on Foursquare. However, one nice perk GetGlue offers is once you earn seven stickers there is an opportunity to receive physical stickers. And honestly, who doesn’t like stickers? Along with checkins you can “like” and rate favorite content. Check in to a particular item enough times and you can become the Guru. This makes you the resident expert and provides ability to lead discussions on that site’s page. Zombie Apps: These Games are Coming to eat Your Brains!

Tuesday, July 20th, 2010

Twilight? Vampires? Werewolves?  Really? Come on. They’re good for scaring and maybe titillating teenage girls — but Zombies are real. At the beach last month, I read  Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and  World War Z ; I drank zombies; I listened to Rob Zombie; I rented  Shaun of the Dead ; And of course I played zombie apps. If, like me, you think the only thing tastier than a fresh brain is a fresh zombie app, read on! Plants vs. Zombies , $2.99, Rating 8/10 For those that haven’t played the  desktop version of PvZ , Plants vs. Zombies is a cute and irreverent addition to the zombie genre—the graphics are cartoon-like, not ghoulish. The app is a casual tower defense game — simplified down to its essence — where you use an arsenal of plants to fight off 26 different types of zombies. PvZ is playable but not especially challenging. The fun in this game is in seeing what the next level will bring—new “bio-weapons,” imaginative obstacles, or some as-yet unknown cannibalistic cuteness. Also check out Plants vs Zombies for the iPad , $9.99, with a few extra games and crisp High-Definition graphics. Zombie Attack: Second Wave XL , $3.99, Rating: 9/10 The ZA franchise is legendary in pocket zombie circles, and the IUGO guys have outdone themselves in this all-device offering. ZA2 is a tower defense zombie-blaster extraordinaire, and the iPad app lets you share the mayhem in co-op mode. Whichever device you use, you have access to your iPod music throughout the game, plus scads of weapons, turrets, zombie types, and costumes. Toast Shooter HD Pops up with Fun

Friday, July 16th, 2010

Toast Shooter HD turns your iPad into a shooting gallery with the object of taking down the most formidable of enemies: toast. It is a great game that is especially enjoyable on the iPad’s larger screen. Play begins with a toaster popping up and then launching multiple pieces of toast into the air. In order to earn points you must blast them out of the sky with your jelly cannon; aka your finger. For every miss a jelly meter at the top of the screen drops. If the meter goes empty then the game is over. However, you can’t just whack away at every flying slice in Toast Shooter HD . Burnt toast is sometimes launched, which will further drain the jelly meter if hit. Also the longer you keep going the more toasters appear on screen, which will soon have bread flying all over the place.
