Talking Santa for iPhone Brings Christmas Cheer and a Bizarre Sense of Humor

Tuesday, December 21st, 2010

Talking Santa for iPhone will feel familiar to anyone who has used any of the other “Talking Friends” apps by the developer, Outfit7 . When you open the app it’s just you and the cartoon character, face to face. Speak, and the character will repeat what you say—in a distorted voice, of course. Touch buttons to manipulate the character, or even hit record to make a customized greeting to send to your friends. While it’s much like the others, Talking Santa for iPhone is probably the best one yet. Since it’s for a specific holiday, the ability to generate and share greeting cards suddenly makes a lot of sense. Santa is also surrounded by all the holiday accouterments you’d expect: a snowman, a big bag of gifts, a sleigh with a tray of cookies and a glass of milk. But there’s lots you won’t expect. Avenging Spirit iPhone App Review – Supernatural!

Tuesday, December 21st, 2010

Avenging Spirit is a conversion of a Japanese arcade game published by Jaleco during the 90s.  We covered the release a week or so back, and have had the pleasure of playing the game since then, so it’s high time we told you all about it. In all honesty, the original didn’t ring any bells, so

Was Apple Right to Remove Unofficial WikiLeaks App?

Tuesday, December 21st, 2010

Apple is at the center of the latest piece of WikiLeaks controversy, along with the developer of an unofficial app launched last week, and subsequently removed from the App Store this week.  Much like everything else WikiLeaks related, this has been met with much comment. The application, entitled simply WikiLeaks App, presented the site’s content and

‘Tis the Season to Use FaceTime

Tuesday, December 21st, 2010

Oh, Apple, you sentimental old thing!  What better way to celebrate Christmas than with FaceTime, the video call service available for iPhone users!  At least that’s the message we see in the latest Apple TV spot. You can see it below, but be warned, there is a heavy amount of schmaltz included, as good old dad

Youtube Stream Turns a Search into a Channel

Monday, December 20th, 2010

Some apps aim to do one thing well. Others aim to do many things, not quite as well. Then there’s Youtube Stream , an app that does one thing pretty well, and then countless other unexpected things you hadn’t even considered or asked for. The previous release of Youtube Stream was plagued with bugs and glitches. Thankfully, the latest release fixes all that, and the version tested for review was fast and stable. Now that that’s out of the way, we can look at it for what it is: an app that takes a YouTube search, and then plays the results back-to-back, without pause, just like a television station.(…) Read the rest of Youtube Stream Turns a Search into a Channel AppCraver.com, 2010. | Youtube Stream Turns a Search into a Channel | Best iPhone Applications | Top iPhone Apps

Control Your Desktop and More with JumiOne

Monday, December 20th, 2010

JumiOne distinguishes itself among apps that control a PC through the iPhone. JumiOne is the flagship app for a family of free and paid apps that allow you to control practically any function or command on a PC. Not only can you scroll through web pages or documents by using your device as a virtual mouse, but there are more sophisticated controls for those who want to run their entire computer. It is most functional when performing basic mouse duties or acting as a remote control for media capabilities. The free options allow for mouse control, custom application remotes and turning a web camera into a spycam. The most basic features dominate the free apps, while more sophisticated options will require an in-app purchase. SleepStream 2 iPhone App Review – To Sleep, Perchance to Dream

Monday, December 20th, 2010

Laying in bed and staring at the ceiling because you can’t sleep is very frustrating, something I usually cure by getting up and doing some work, but the last time I was in this situation, I reached for my iPhone 4 to try out SleepStream 2. This is an app primarily designed to aid sleeping and

Power Support Clear Air Jacket Set for the iPhone 4 Review

Monday, December 20th, 2010

I dropped my iPhone 4 at the weekend.  Well, I say dropped, but actually it was accidentally swept off a coffee table, when it fell around 12 inches to the floor.  Not very far, but as the floor is tile rather than something soft, there was still a chance for disaster to strike. As I test

TuneIn Radio for iPhone Makes the A-List

Friday, December 17th, 2010

With so many radio apps to choose from, how can you pick just one? Well in short you probably can’t, but depending on how and what you want to listen to TuneIn Radio may be ideal. Similar to SparkRadio and comparatively priced, TuneIn Radio features many (not all) stations from around the world. Listeners can browse stations by location, music genre, or show. Though you won’t get anything revolutionary, TuneIn Radio does feature a very smooth design, easy navigation, and in my experience so far, more than acceptable stream time. One of the more interesting features of TuneIn Radio over some similar competitors is the ability to record, fast forward and rewind. Granted, live radio can only be recorded and rewound, but recorded shows can be fast forwarded.(…) Read the rest of TuneIn Radio for iPhone Makes the A-List AppCraver.com, 2010. | TuneIn Radio for iPhone Makes the A-List | Best iPhone Applications | Top iPhone Apps

DT Calculator Puts a Price on Server Downtime

Friday, December 17th, 2010

DT Calculator is an app that tracks the cost of server downtime in a company. However, it’s an app that is clearly aimed at IT administrators, folks who know better than anyone the infuriatingly high cost of lost sales and productivity due to servers that just can’t handle the traffic. So, what gives? Why make an app to preach to the choir? The answer is that Storagepipe , the developer of both this app and of the network solutions that can rectify the problem, want to give IT admins a really handy and persuasive tool to show their bosses next time something goes wrong. More than just a productivity app, DT Calculator is a miniature presentation.
