iTOT – The Innovative Time-Out Timer

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

Designed for parents, iTOT – The Innovative Time-Out Timer is an iPhone application meant to turn your phone into a time-out aid. A fairly decent concept, iTOT features some good ideas in terms of design, but unfortunately the execution is a bit lacking. The settings features include the ability to turn sound and movement detection on or off, set a password for ending the time out, and save session statistics for multiple children. These features demonstrate a bit of thought regarding the design, but it is all undermined by the simple inability to stop the timer once it begins. Time-out for kids is supposed to be a form of behavior modification by demonstrating a single consequence for undesired behavior. As a parent, I know the challenge involved in implementing consistency in discipline, so the idea of an innovative time-out timer that resets itself at the detection of noise and reinforces accomplishment with an audible cheering section could be promising. However, I was not terribly impressed with the user-friendliness of iTOT or its intuitiveness. Primarily, because once you start the timer, you can’t stop it at will.(…) Read the rest of iTOT – The Innovative Time-Out Timer All App Reviews © AppCraver.com, 2010. | iTOT – The Innovative Time-Out Timer by Jennifer | Get our iPhone Reviews on Facebook & Twitter !

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

Looking back at gaming on the Commodore Amiga reveals a period when games were fun.  They weren’t all complicated, sprawling affairs needing hours to play – although some were – but instead they were quickly picked up but tough to master.  Many were also the products of small studios or even the brainchild of one

Think Apple Store employees get to play with the new toys, think again

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

A recently published article on Reuters gives an interesting, albeit slight look at what Apple retail employees get in terms of hands on with the products. Without worrying much here about giving a spoiler, it should be described more as a hands off. Did anyone really believe that Apple employees got to play with new

Air Harp Encourages iPad Plucking!

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

Hot on the heels of yesterday’s CheckMates iPad app comes the Air Harp, another new iPad app.  This is a musical application from touchGrove, who are also responsible for the classic Mattel handheld game ports, which emulates the sound and experience of playing a lap harp. Based on early 15-string examples of the lap harp, the

iPhone OS 3.2 SDK, the software that allows developers to produce top-notch apps for the iPad, is now in the hands of some developers, but the end-user licensing agreement leaves me a bit, shall we say, vexed. As many of you know, iPhone OS updates are, and always have been, free (although it did cost money

Belly Bums: Casual Gaming that’s Comical but not Compelling

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

Belly Bums - When you think of beach volleyball, typically the image that comes to mind is athletic, toned players diving for the ball in the sand. Prepare for that image to be demolished with Belly Bums . Instead, the game’s characters look like The Biggest Loser contestants—week 1 and without shirts. The game certainly has some comic value considering that you launch the ball over the net with the player’s oversized stomach. But while some of the game’s nuances are a bit comical, the gameplay is quite thin. The controls take some getting used to—tapping the screen catapults the ball with your belly. By swiping on a volleyball icon in the corner you can control the spin. With a little practice most players should be able to get a handle on it and master some of the decent spin and targeting moves that you can perform with the volleyball. Doodle Kart Draws Out the Race Car Driver In You

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

Doodle Kart –  Doodle games, with graphics that appear to have been hand drawn, are hot. Lima Sky’s Doodle Jump , for example, is currently sitting in third place in the best-selling apps column. Among the latest of these games is  Doodle Kart from j2sighte , a novel top-down racing game that pits cleverly crafted racers on a graph paper background. j2sighte says Doodle Kart was inspired  by Sauce Digital’s Nano Rally , a similar game also with hand-drawn graphics. There are five stages with 25 unique tracks in all, providing for hours of track time.  To begin , you’ll choose between single race and championship modes. In single mode, you have the option of going solo or playing against a CPU opponent. In Championship mode, you have the option of taking it easy, normal, hard or nightmare.
