Mover App Review: Share Your Life Virtually

Saturday, December 26th, 2009

One of the biggest incentives of buying an iPhone is all of the extra tools it can be utilized as. Who knew about a decade ago that we’d all carry around mini computers with the ability to snap pictures, store data and browse the internet with. The iPhone can do some truly amazing things. However,

Stone Skipper Is Simple-Minded Fun

Saturday, December 26th, 2009

Stone Skipper couldn’t get much simpler: Find out how many times you can get a rock to skip across the surface of a pond, river or other body of water. In developer Burnley Media’s game, you assume the role of Max, who along with his faithful dog, Andy, spend the day skipping stones. Max has three tries to skip a stone across a stretch of still water. The harder Max flicks his wrist or flings his arm, the greater the distance and number of times the stone skips. Aside from Stone Skipper’s getting progressively harder at each level, there’s little else to this game. There’s so little in fact, you would think this was a free game instead of one price tagged at $0.99. I’ve played lots of these “fling your iPhone or iPod touch” kinds of games that use the iPhone and touch’s accelerometer for game control. Bowling is a particular favorite and out of the several games the category in the App Store, in my opinion, none is in the same league as  Action Bowling from  Kronos Games . However, as much as I like Action Bowling, I only play it in the “finger flick” mode. I’m too mindful that if I’m not careful, my iPhone might get out of hand (literally), which is the main reason I tend to stay away from games that rely on my flicking wrists or flinging arms to play. The thought of bouncing my iPhone off the wall — again — or Wii-style into a giant screen TV, is too much to ponder. Been there and done that, in other words. There’s a lot of the same in Stone Skipper . Like I said, it’s simple. Flick or fling rocks across lakes and rivers. Too simple in fact to be entertaining for more than a few minutes or for as long as you manage to hold onto your iPhone or iPod touch. In the plus column: The graphics are cartoon-y but skillfully done and the soundtrack is infectious. rating: 7/10 app_name: Stone Skipper © AppCraver , 2009. | Stone Skipper Is Simple-Minded Fun | Get our iPhone Reviews on Facebook & Twitter !

VoiceCentral to bring Google Voice back to the iPhone by way of a web app

Saturday, December 26th, 2009

Sure, iPhone users can technically still use Google Voice apps such as GV Mobile, but those being able to use them are limited to those who are willing to jailbreak and as much as I would like to think otherwise, that number is not really that large. But in terms of Google Voice and the iPhone,

Best free iPhone app: Dragon Dictation

Friday, December 25th, 2009

For me, the best free iPhone app in the Apple App Store would have to be the Dragon Dictation iPhone app . The Dragon Dictation iPhone app allows you to speak in to your iPhone and have your speech converted to text. Your text can then be sent as a text message, E-mail, or pasted in to another iPhone application using the clipboard. Pros: Converts your speech to text very accurately Offers suggestions for text that wasn’t converted from speech to text properly Saves you a lot of time Cons: There is a 30 second time limit for dictation, but you can keep adding more text after every 30 seconds Requires you to have an Internet connection Doesn’t work well in noisy environments I’ve been using the Dragon Dictation iPhone app for about a week now and have found it really helpful. I still type with my keyboard sometimes but whenever I  need to type an e-mail using this app saves me a lot of time. It really surprised me how accurate this iPhone app was. Check it out by clicking the download link below! Let us know how it works for you. Thursday, December 24th, 2009

In my almost standard morning ritual of hitting that “Check for Updates” link in the applications section of iTunes, I was greeted with a nice surprise this time. The Evernote app has been updated.
