Flipsy FREE Flipping In The Right Direction

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

Flipsy FREE iPhone app by myNewApps.com is a puzzle game played on a 3d board that allows you to flip and rotate the board in order to line up your colorful puzzle blocks and score points. The board is able to rotate both clockwise and counter-clockwise 90 degrees at a time. When you elect to flip the board it simply flops upside down 180 degrees. When you flip and rotate your Flipsy Free board you cause your puzzle blocks to constantly change the configuration causing them to line up differently each time. By matching like colors you are able to score points. The grey blocks can keep you from lining up a color strand but the Lava blocks can destroy they grey ones. There are also Joker blocks that are wild and by tapping on them you can use them as the color needed for that strand. Flipsy offers readily available game hints during play as well as the game standard options of music and sounds. The colors and graphics of the game are superb and the flipping and rotating provide for some strategy and thinking ahead that many games frequently lack. Flipsy is offered in 2 versions, the free version and the $.99 version. The free version is limited to the first 10 levels and is advertised as your opportunity to try before you buy. I tested the free version and while I found it to be fun and somewhat challenging, I also discovered it to be a bit easy. My suggestion would be if you are into puzzle games and think you might like it I’d head directly to the paid version. If you’re not sure you want to spend a buck up front, try out the free version and give it a try. Much like the recently reviewed Gyrotate , Flipsy offers a nice change to some of the more popular puzzle apps. For puzzle enthusiasts looking for a little something different to add to their repitoire of fun, Flipsy FREE iPhone app by myNewApps.com offers a unique spin, or shall I say flip, to the game. rating: 7/10 app_name: Flipsy FREE © AppCraver , 2009. | Flipsy FREE Flipping In The Right Direction | Get our iPhone Reviews on Facebook & Twitter !

Sand Garden Achieves Visual Zen

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

For those who appreciate the blissful relaxation of Japanese rock gardens and can also appreciate the virtual translation of such a utopian art, then check out Pavel Doichev’s latest app Sand Garden . Released only a few weeks ago, but buried beneath hundreds of other new releases, Sand Garden is a three dimensional sand garden complete with customization options to make your Zen garden a reflection of you. Sand Garden is a simplistic app that is very beautifully rendered in realistic 3D graphics. Choices include sand color along with rock type, shape, color and polish, as well as lighting options. Choose from an array of vibrant colored sands or basic white sand and use it as a background for the placement of a polished granite or marble rock. Resize the rock or reposition it to your liking. Select tools from a simple stick to a few different rakes that leave different patterns in the sand. Experiment with lighting, including candlelight, to achieve the perfect balance of shadow and light. All in all, Sand Garden is very aesthetic from a visual standpoint. It does a nice job of capturing and recreating the experience of raking sand and is simply quite lovely to look at. The only downfall is a lack of sound. You can play music from your library as you experiment and build your garden, but including either a complimenting loop of Japanese-style music or a collection of relaxing sound effects like waves, chimes, or rain would have sent Sand Garden over the top in terms of achieving true Zen. Auditory shortcomings aside, Sand Garden is a visual treat. The options available to create a customized rock garden aren’t incredibly varied, but are impressive enough to make it pleasing. If you enjoy all things Zen and grasp the concept of trying to achieve balance and harmony in the construction of things, then give Sand Garden a look. It’s priced right and could fill a few moments of down time with a bit of relaxation, plus allows you to create unique wallpaper by taking screenshot pictures. rating: 8/10 app_name: Sand Garden © AppCraver , 2009. | Sand Garden Achieves Visual Zen | Get our iPhone Reviews on Facebook & Twitter !

Easy Recipes App Review: Creative Cooking Made Easy

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

I’m no master in the kitchen, but I have been known to dabble around with various recipes and ingredients. A lot of people attempt to spice things up in the kitchen by grabbing a few “Modern” cookbooks. However, they’re often surprised at the complexity of the recipes and the cost of the cookbook. Well luckily

Conquer Your RSS Feeds with my6sense

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

News stream and social media app my6sense wants to make the deluge of information available on the web a bit more manageable for you — by reading your mind. Yes, this is another app that studies your tendencies, but my6sense is actually a pretty good tool at sorting through your RSS feeds and pulling up content that aligns with your interests. It works by using an artificial engine to digest your news feeds from an RSS reader account, such as Google Reader. After a few hours, my6sense will start giving you recommended reading under a Top Messages panel. The longer you use my6sense, the more information there is about your reading habits. This in turn hones in on the kind of stories you would rather be reading. After a bit of use I was really pleased with what it pulled up as recommended reading. Where my6sense is particularly strong is if you are browsing your iPhone/iPod touch and want a quick snippet of news and information. By pulling up the recommended feeds my app was filled with stories that I was happy to peruse my way through. It was a far better way to read through my feeds than just looking at the haphazard scroll of stories found in a typical reader. If you want to scroll through the feeds by their feed title that is possible too — and the interface here is really smooth and includes the title and an icon for each feed. There are also social media components through my6sense, which allows you to share a feed through Twitter, Facebook, or FriendFeed. These were pretty seamless and worked quite well, with the link automatically shortened through tinyurl.com . Probably the only drawback is there is not yet any sync between your feeds. For example, if you read a story through my6sense, it still appears as unread if you pull it up later in Google Reader. But overall, this is an excellent (and free!) tool for reading and sharing online content. Also, bit.ly integration would make sharing even stronger so you could track your links. In all my6sense is a strong offering in the news app and rss reader categories and hopefully will continue to add features to make it even stronger. rating: 8/10 app_name: my6sense © AppCraver , 2009. | Conquer Your RSS Feeds with my6sense | Get our iPhone Reviews on Facebook & Twitter !

Gyrotate – Line ‘em up, and Take ‘em out for Endless Fun

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

Wander through the App Store and you’ll find an ever-increasing list of puzzle games, many of which seem eerily familiar. Like a seven-year itch in December, playing the same old games starts to lack a certain spark.  Gyrotate by Goos Trix Ltd . may be one app that will keep your thoughts more on playing the game and less on what you might be missing in the App Store. Gyrotate is simple to play. It consists of four rotating rows of objects and all you have to do is match 4 or more pieces of the same color by rotating the rows or layers. Each color has a quota you’ll need to meet before you can move on to the next level. Sounds simple but as you advance the quota increases and the time allowed decreases. Designed with three skill levels, (easy, normal, or hard), Gyrotate is sure to challenge even the most skilled puzzle player. Beyond the skill levels there are also a few extra pieces that appear during your play that make the game more difficult and challenging at times. The locks, bombs, and clocks require you to use more strategy than just lining up colors during play. Gyrotate is similar to other puzzle games for sure. Bejeweled , Gemmed and reMovem immediately come to mind. But those are puzzle games that I find extremely favorable among the slew of games available. If you are a fan of those types of puzzle games, then you will be assured some great solitary time with Gyrotate . With its retro-look, neon colors, and rotating rows you may even be hard pressed to put it down. rating: 8/10 app_name: Gyrotate © AppCraver , 2009. | Gyrotate – Line ‘em up, and Take ‘em out for Endless Fun | Get our iPhone Reviews on Facebook & Twitter !

mBox App Review: Business Man’s Bestfriend

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

A lot of today’s modern business is conducted outside the walls of an office. If your a business man or woman who frequently goes on the road or out of the country, you know just how hectic life can be. One of the biggest problems is keeping up to date with your business when you’re

Alien Axis Turns Puzzle Solving on its Head

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

Take a small, green alien named Otto, the tilt response of the iPhone and an adventure puzzle with 28 levels to navigate and you get Alien Axis in a nutshell. Alien Axis requires players to navigate Otto from start to finish while avoiding certain obstacles and interacting with others. It’s fairly simplistic in design and slightly reminiscent of a ball in box puzzle, but with a bit more pizzazz and depth. Though Alien Axis has some room for improvement, overall it has a solid premise. At the beginning of each level, Otto materializes at the start point and players navigate him to a door, which will transport him to the next level. The first few levels are simple, but then things get more challenging. Otto will respond to a tap of the finger, moving left or right accordingly. You can also tilt the device 90 degrees at a time and the puzzle’s vantage will adjust accordingly. In each level, you simply decide the best way to help Otto reach the door in the best time. Alien Axis is a very forgiving game in that it allows as many attempts at a level as needed. This is a good thing because while the tilt response is pretty dead-on, the touch response sometimes isn’t. Being that tilt is often more productive than touch, the gameplay isn’t greatly impacted and some levels can be zipped through in 30 seconds or less simply by tilting. In fact, it’s the tilting navigation that makes Alien Axis fun. The puzzling aspect of the game varies from challenging to obvious, but you definitely root for Otto if only to hear his triumphant giggle at each level’s end. While Alien Axis could stand a few tweaks to update minor glitches, such as frequently failing to launch on the first try, a bit more explanation of maneuvers involving jumping, and more responsive touch controls, the combination of settings, ease of play and solid premise make it a more than acceptable .99 puzzle. To try before you buy, check out Alien Axis Lite with a limited number of levels. rating: 7/10 app_name: Alien Axis © AppCraver , 2009. | Alien Axis Turns Puzzle Solving on its Head | Get our iPhone Reviews on Facebook & Twitter !

Appitudez Financial Calculator is a Killer Tool

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

Appitudez Financial Calculators is an excellent collection of consumer and business tools that should serve the needs of those shopping for a loan, car, or investment. Businesspeople who need to break down financial numbers while away from the computer are also likely to find it incredibly useful. While finding a financial calculator on the web is normally a matter of just conducting a Google search for “mortgage calculator” it can be a bit more tricky from your iPhone. Fortunately if you opt to download Appitudez Financial Calculators most of the common formulas you need will be readily available. Appitudez Financial Calculators is as handy as its name is long. There are 11 different calculators, ranging from those for a mortgage, savings, investment tools and annual percentage rate. The layout is very easy to work through as you simply tap on the different parameters and change the results. Hit “go” and there is a succinct compilation of the information. If you want more details, the calculators can also provide an entire amortization schedule. This will list a specific breakdown by month or week for your mortgage or credit card payments. These scheduled can then be saved for later use or e-mailed. However, if you want to e-mail a schedule, you better do so when creating the calculation. Once saved, there is no option to send it to others. Your saved calculations are in a pretty easy-to-use list that are listed in alphabetical order by name. Real estate salespersons or others could really benefit from the ability to save calculations and payment schedule for clients based on different properties they had shown. Consumers may want to revisit what the payment schedule may have looked like for that dream home. Appitudez Financial Calculators is quite impressive in its 1.0 version. While a bit pricey by App Store standards, you can feel secure that when you spring for the app that the quality and usefulness are definitely there. rating: 8/10 app_name: Appitudez Financial Calculators © AppCraver , 2009. | Appitudez Financial Calculator is a Killer Tool | Get our iPhone Reviews on Facebook & Twitter !
