321 Jump! Updated With Bluetooth Multiplayer, Jump Against Your Friends

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

MASQ Interactive’s 321 Jump! has just been updated with the ability to play against your friends via Bluetooth, which makes this addicting little platformer even more difficult to put down. 321 Jump! is a Doodle Jump inspired platformer.   321 Jump! features the same solid tilt controls and global leader boards as the the games it was inspired by, but it adds to that formula with a bunch of different power-ups and some very smooth graphics. The idea of the game is to jump as high as you can by utilizing the six different kinds of power-ups, but you must watch out for the various monsters you will encounter on your way up.  The game also features the ability to shoot at your enemies by tapping the screen, four different levels, and the ability to challenge friends via Facebook. 321 Jump! v2.0 now features the ability to play against your friends via Bluetooth, new items, optimized bitmap display, and improved stability. 321 Jump! is available in the App Store for $.99. We have also added 321 Jump! to our Peer-To-Peer Apps Applist . Apple Asks Developers For Keywords, Finally Find What You Are Searching For

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

According to AppleInsider , Apple is now asking developers to to add a list of keywords for all apps that are submitted to the App Store to help improve app discovery.  This is hopefully only the first of many promised improvements to the App Store. Developers are now being asked to enter up to 255 characters worth of keywords when submitting their apps.  The addition has been made to iTunes Connect, the service which allows developers to submit their content to the App Store. “It is important to enter keywords for all applications as soon as possible so your application can continue to be successfully located on the App Store,” the update from Apple reads. “Keywords can be updated with the submission of a new binary.” The only question that remains is what, if any measures have been taken to stop developers from entering popular but unrelated keywords to give false results, but apparently the system is already working.  According to AppleInsider, weeks ago when you searched for “EA,” the results came up with 15 games from another developer, Digital Chocolate.  The reason being is that in each of Digital Chocolate’s game descriptions, the word “each” was abbreviated to “ea.” to intentionally reveal false results.  But now, the first 18 results in a search for “EA” are all EA games.  How about that?  A search that actually works! So what do you think is next on Apple’s list of improvements to the App Store? Developer Fights Back, GV Mobile Already Available Via Cydia

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

The developer of GV Mobile , Sean Kovacs , has already decided to roll with the punches that Apple and AT&T have thrown.  Instead of just allowing the app to go the way of the dodo, he has decided to distribute it via Cydia, which means you can download it for free if you have a jailbroken device. Earlier today we reported that Apple had removed all apps from the App Store that take advantage of Google Voice’s functionality, including Sean Kovacs’ GV Mobile .  They even went as far as rejecting Google’s own native Google Voice app.  Many believe that this hasty removal was at the request of AT&T, since Google Voice is able to provide users with free text messaging, cheaper long-distance service, and a bunch of other features.  The public outcry has been fairly substantial, but it is unlikely that Apple or AT&T will give in.  This is what prompted Sean Kovacs to release his popular app via Cydia.  It may not be available to everyone, but at least some are still able to enjoy it. The app remains exactly as it was in the App Store, so this list of features remains relevant to the Cydia version: GV Mobile allows users of Google Voice to: Dial numbers via the iPhone address book or typing on the keypad Full SMS support (view historic, reply, send new) Retrieve and delete recent call history Playback and delete voicemails Take calls from different phones other than your iPhone Enable or disable the phones that Google Voice forwards calls to Add or delete phones that Google Voice forwards call to You can download GV Mobile free of charge in Cydia via the ModMyi repo . Where there is a will, there is a way.  We shall have our Google Voice app! Instapaper Pro v2.1 Released, Now Supports Twitter And Tumblr Sharing

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

The popular offline web page viewer, Instapaper Pro , has just received a relatively useful update that adds a bunch of new features, including the ability to share articles on Tumblr and Twitter. Instapaper Pro is an easy-to-use app for the iPhone and iPod touch that allows you to conveniently save web pages for later viewing.  The app is able to save pages in graphical or text mode, star recommended articles, save your position, adjust text and font sizes, and so much more.   Instapaper Pro is a must-have app for anyone who is constantly on-the-go and just can’t find time to read important articles during the day. Instapaper Pro v2.1 now features the ability to share articles on Tumblr or Twitter with built-in client support, send articles to supported Twitter apps if you have them installed, email articles without leaving the Instapaper , non-article screens no longer rotate, interface and speed improvements, and fixed a common crash from the previous version.  It’s worth noting that this version now requires iPhone OS 3.0. The update hasn’t quite propagated to all servers yet, so if you don’t see the new version just check for updates on your device.  Otherwise you can wait it out, it will show up in iTunes soon enough. Instapaper Pro v2.1 is now available in the App Store for $4.99.  A free version is available, but it is lacking many of the features contained in the Pro version, and it is ad-supported. Embedded below is a video demonstration of some of the features introduced in the previous Instapaper Pro v2.0 update. Mafia Wars Updated, Get Push Notifications When Energy Is Full And Loot Is Available

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

The mafia-based strategy game genre is basically at full capacity in the App Store, so developers are trying to find ways to set themselves apart while keeping the fanbase happy.  Apparently push notifications are the way to go, as we have seen iMobster and now Mafia Wars get updated with the new ability. Mafia Wars , just like every other mafia-based strategy game, rewards you with money and experience points for fighting rival mobs, doing jobs, and developing property.  The goal is to build your mafia empire as big as you can by adding other members to your team.  The more members you have, the more powerful you become. Mafia Wars was recently updated to v1.12, which adds quite a few new features, including push notifications when your energy is full and loot is available, new loot jobs and items, fixed “sluggishness” on the home screen, improved speed and stability, and fixed several exploits. Mafia Wars is available in the App Store for free, but you can purchase other versions that start you off with experience points to give you a leg up on the competition. We have also added Mafia Wars to our Apps That Push You Applist . Evolution Of Space Invaders, Space Invaders Infinity Gene Lands In App Store

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

The 1978 classic arcade game, Space Invaders , has already made its way to the iPhone and iPod touch, but it is Taito’s new version that has everyone talking. Space Invaders Infinity Gene isn’t your father’s Space Invaders , this is a brand new and re-imagined version that will keep you coming back for more.   Space Invaders Infinity Gene starts off like the classic Space Invaders , simply allowing you to move from side to side, but the more you play, the more the game evolves.  For example, new features can be unlocked by defeating levels, including new capabilities (like moving around the screen instead of just side to side), weapons, additional menu items, difficulty levels, lives, and more.  The game literally evolves, so the sky is the limit as long as you keep on playing. As for how the game controls, you can simply touch and drag anywhere on the screen to control your ship.  The ship automatically fires, so there is very little obstructing your view. Space Invaders Infinity Gene is now available in the App Store for $4.99. Descriptions simply don’t do this game justice, so we have included a gameplay trailer straight from the developer below. Fast & Furious Released On Blu-Ray, Access Special Features With Virtual Car Garage App

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

The 2-disc special edition of Fast & Furious has finally been released on Blu-ray, which means it’s time to try out the new companion iPhone and iPod touch app that Universal Studios has claimed to be so innovative . If you have a BD-Live enabled Blu-ray player , Fast & Furious 2-disc special edition on Blu-ray, and an iPhone or iPod touch connected to your home Wi-Fi network, you should head on over to the App Store and download Fast & Furious: Virtual Car Garage 2.0 free of charge.  The app will allow you to interact directly with the virtual car garage feature located on the disc, which will allow you to access and interact with 3D models of five cars from the film.  The app features the ability to access bonus tech specs, customize cars, share them with friends, and post them on your Facebook page.   Fast & Furious: Virtual Car Garage 2.0 will also unlock an exclusive, never-before-seen, bonus feature starring the one and only Paul Walker. This is merely the first of many Universal Studios Blu-ray discs to utilize iPhone and iPod touch-enabled features.  It will be interesting to see what other kinds of interaction they have planned for other film releases. If you are able to give this app a test drive, stop back and tell us what you think of this new capability.
