iPhone 3GS availability dwindling

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

Remember earlier this week when I posted an article [link] reporting that Apple had posted an online 3GS “availabilty database”? Back then, only 5 Apple retail stores were sold out of all four iPhone models. Fast forward to today, and only about 40-45% of all Apple retail stores have all four iPhones in stock and 15%

A Better Best Buy App?

Monday, June 29th, 2009

We discovered a simple free app called Best Buy Weekly Deals over one month ago, which was an app that allowed you to do exactly what the name implies, search Best Buy’s weekly deals.   The problem with that app is that Best Buy themselves considered it a work in progress, which it apparently still is.  A new Best Buy app popped up in the App Store recently called Best Buy - Gamers Club that allows you to search for deals on all kinds of gaming content along with a bunch of other features, including the ability to search through the weekly deals. Best Buy - Gamers Club gives you access to special offers and discounts, gaming content, the latest news about upcoming games for your favorite platform, weekly deals, customer reviews and specs for nearly every product, a store locator, and it even includes the ability to save items to a shopping list.  The shopping list portion requires you to register for an account, but once you do that you can save items to the list and share them with our friends. Best Buy - Gamers Club is available in the App Store for free. If you decide to give it a try, stop back and tell us what you think.  Hopefully it turns out to be a solid replacement for Best Buy Weekly Deals . Doom Resurrection Now Available In App Store

Monday, June 29th, 2009

id Software’s highly anticipated iPhone and iPod touch game, Doom Resurrection , is now available in the App Store.  This isn’t just some old port, however, as Doom Resurrection was designed specifically for Apple’s unique platform. Doom Resurrection is a first-person shooter set in the Doom universe.  The story runs parallel with the original Doom , where you are the last surviving space marine from your unit who must protect Earth from an invasion of demonic creatures that have traveled through a dimensional rift on Mars. This version of Doom is much unlike any other version that you have ever played before in that it is actually an on-rails shooter, which means that you won’t be controlling where your character goes.  The team decided to go with this method of control because they felt it offered the most entertaining experience for their audience as a whole.  We will have to wait and see if you hardcore Doom fans out there agree. The shooting component of the game is where the action is.   Doom Resurrection features an accelerometer controlled reticule, an on-screen shoot button, and an on-screen button for dodging incoming attacks.  The game contains eight levels, four levels of difficulty, and even graphical assets that were originally designed for Doom 3 , so it looks as good as you would expect. Doom Resurrection is now available in the App Store for $9.99. We have embedded the original trailer for the game below. Steve Jobs Is Officially Back At Work

Monday, June 29th, 2009

It’s officially official this time.   Bloomberg has received confirmation from Apple spokesperson Steve Dowling that Steve Jobs has indeed returned to his position as Apple’s CEO. Jobs had been spotted at Apple’s headquarters last week, but this report is as official as it can get.  According to the report, Jobs is at Apple a few days a week and he is working at home the rest of the days.  Dowling wouldn’t say whether Jobs is actually at the office today. Apple Agrees To Adopt Micro-USB Phone Charger In Europe

Monday, June 29th, 2009

According to Reuters , Apple, along with the likes of Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Motorola, LG, NEC, Qualcomm, Research in Motion, Samsung and Texas Instruments have agreed to adopt the micro-USB connector standard for smartphone chargers in the European Union.  Together, the companies represent about 90 percent of the European mobile market. At first, smartphones in Europe will come with a standardized charger but after an unspecified amount of time the chargers and devices will be sold separately.  The cost of the standardized chargers have not yet been determined.  Compatible devices should start rolling out sometime next year.  Smartphones are expected to account for almost half of all new mobile phone purchases in 2010. Of course the standardized chargers will only be compatible with European smartphones, but it is hoped that other countries will eventually follow suit. So what does this mean for Apple’s proprietary dock connector?  Only time will tell.  How do all of you feel about this new standardized connector?  Is it a welcomed change or do you have tons of dock connector devices that you wouldn’t know what to do with? iPhone 3GS crack ready, but not for prime time yet

Monday, June 29th, 2009

The Dev Team has cracked the iPhone 3GS (as if there was any doubt). Trouble is, if they released it now it would do far more harm than good. You see, a firmware update, version 3.0.1, is inevitable, and will probably arrive from Apple sooner rather than later because Cupertino probably feels that it needs to
