Finally, An Easy Way To Keep Track Of Your Disc Golf Score

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

Disc golf, or frisbee golf as it is called in some groups, is a simple and relaxing golf-like game that can be played in the park with your friends or family.  Disc golf can also become a less relaxing, pain in the rear when someone accidentally messes up the scorecard, but thanks to the new and improved iPhone and iPod touch application, DiscGolf , you should be able to avoid those bloody scorecard battles altogether. DiscGolf allows you to easily keep track of not only your own disc golf score, but also up to eight other players’ scores as well.  The interface is easy and fun, simply enter the participants names and choose a course and you are on your way.   DiscGolf features a built in leader board, easy set-up wizard, golfer customization, the ability to score up to 50 strokes per hole, hole par customization, and no limits on the number of holes you can score, which comes in handy for those courses with an odd number of holes.   DiscGolf is also able to retain course information so you won’t have to enter all of the information all over again, and it even able to save golfer’s info for later use. Sutibo Software, the developer of DiscGolf , is also working on their next update for the application, which will keep track of user statistics so you can see what your average is as you are scoring a game. DiscGolf is currently available in the App Store for the introductory price of $.99. Since the weather has been perfect for disc golfing lately, all of you disc golf fanatics should get outside and give this application a try, then come back here to tell us what you think. Chillingo’s CS.One Is Shaping Up To Be One Hectic Shooter

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

Chillingo has been able to latch on to some of the best developers who are creating some the best games for the iPhone and iPod touch, and it looks like they found another great game in h.grenade’s CS.One . CS.One , or Circuit Strike. One , is a fast-paced shooter being developed by h.grenade. The game is kind of a mix between Geometry Wars and Asteroids if that helps give you an idea of what to expect.  You are the pilot of a virtual ship within an advanced computer network, where you must reek havoc on the system, killing everything in sight while collecting ghost data from the remains to engage in Bullet.Time.  Bullet.Time is essentially a slow motion game mechanic where the audio speed and pitch are warped, and your ship becomes invincible.  You must utilize everything that is available to you to defeat the evil System Admin. The developers set out to make a full-featured, intense arcade game which would require a high level of dexterity to unlock all three difficulty levels, all 30 achievements, and to dominate the online leader boards.  From the looks of the screenshots and videos, they are well on their way. The team at h.grenade is confident that they have made the perfect game for all of you hardcore iPhone gamers out there: “ CS.One will not walk you to the bus, hold your hand, make you a heart-shaped PB&J or applaud your half-assed skills. It will however, have you begging for more abuse. Call it tough love. Through gaming,” said Shay Casey, Studio Head of h.grenade. “h.grenade was established to help counter the onslaught of cute happening in mobile and casual games. Someone needed to make a game where Cooking Mama meets GTA. We like our games with a lot of violence. And artistic, stylized and polished games, most likely. Frenetic, retro style arcade action. CS.One is that game.” CS.One is still in development, but should be available in the App Store shortly.  The game will be priced at $.99 at launch, but it will return to the regular price of $2.99 at the next major update.  It’s always nice to see early adopters being rewarded for their purchase instead of the other way around. If all of that didn’t fire you up, the gameplay video below definitely will. The New Yorker Cover Art Was Created On An iPhone

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

If you have used any of the large number of artistic applications available in the App Store, you will without a doubt appreciate how difficult it is to create something even remotely passable as art.  Now imagine creating the cover art for something as important as The New Yorker using only these tools.  It’s nearly incomprehensible, right? Artist Jorge Colombo was somehow able to make the entire June 1st cover for The New Yorker using only his iPhone and the application Brushes .  Speaking with the New York Times , Colombo claims the iPhone is actually a solid artistic tool: “The best feature of it is that it doesn’t feel like something that was done digitally; quite the opposite,” said Françoise Mouly, the art editor for The New Yorker. “All too often the technology is directed in only one direction, which is to make things more tight, and this, what he did very well, is use this technology for something that is free flowing, and I think that’s what makes it so poetic and magical.” Colombo was able to do most of his work without anyone even noticing.  He claims to have stood on the street while going about his work completely unnoticed for about an hour, which is a big relief for an artist trying to complete their work. “Absolutely nobody can tell I am drawing,” Mr. Colombo said. “In fact, once I was doing the drawing at some place, and my wife was around, and they asked her why did I have to work so hard? I seemed to be always on my iPhone sending messages.” If you still aren’t convinced the cover art was done solely on an iPhone, watch the video below documenting the process.  It is quite amazing. iPhoneFreak App Review: Reportage (Twitter app for the iPhone)

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

I recently learned, via Twitter of course, that a new Twitter app is available for the iPhone. Shocking I know, another Twitter app, however in this case it may be worth a second look. The app is called Reportage and according to the description, it is a “radically different Twitter client.” Of course, even at

Dragon Panic - An Ideal iPhone Game For Old School Gamers

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

Old school gamers tend to have a sweet spot for any game that contains retro graphics and sound effects, and if you fall under this category of gamer, developer Binary Square along with publisher Clickgamer have a game just for you. Dragon Panic looks and sounds as old school as you can get.  The game is simple, survive as long as you can without getting bonked on the head, which of course is always easier said than done. In Dragon Panic you must help Berny and Blaze, two adorable dragons, fight off the evil knight by burning up his varying attacks with your dragon’s fire breath.  You move your dragon by tilting the iPhone or iPod touch, and tapping the screen will shoot a fireball.  The game contains a global high score system, auto-save, and old school graphics, sound effects, and music.  You can even download free Dragon Panic wallpapers and ringtones at dragonpanic.com . The game also contains more depth than what meets the eye.  The falling debris effects the gameplay differently, such as the rocks and shields destroy stepping stones, skulls hamper your dragon’s fireballs, red potions clear the screen while green potions make your dragon invincible, and much more. Dragon Panic is available in the App Store for $1.99. We have embedded a gameplay video for Dragon Panic below, give it a watch and tell us what you think. A Mobile Safari theme that leaves me wondering why

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

I usually do not make fun off (at least publicly) any themes that are available for the iPhone, mainly because I know that I would not be able to offer anything better. I will also say that although I prefer using a Mac for numerous reasons, I do not necessarily think that Windows is a

My iPhone has become a reading device in so many ways

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

The title of this post really says it all, however I never imagined that it would get to this point. That said, as of now it would be fair to say that I read more on my iPhone than anywhere else. Of course, if anyone can remember back, I offered a review of the Kindle app
