Thursday, February 26th, 2009

Little things can sometimes make a big difference. This simple jailbreak app adds a fifth row to the iPhone’s keyboard, giving access to numbers without the sub-menu being necessary. And symbols are easier to type too. It makes typing longer stuff with the iPhone a bit quicker and easier. Hitting shift will change the new fifth

iPhoto may use iPhone GPS functionality in the future to geotag your location

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

None of this is available now, but a resource screen found in iPhoto ‘09 shows some interesting future technology that may let you geotag your photos even if the camera didn’t have a GPS module. It could have interesting applications. The trick, if we’re interpreting Tidbits’s findings correctly, is that the iPhone may (in the future)

Apple’s iPhone And Bluetooth Keyboard Play Nice

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

Making an external keyboard work with an iPhone is nothing new. Many people have hacked their way to the same results. This new video making its rounds on the web is a little different, it shows an iPhone playing nice with an Apple Bluetooth keyboard. The video simply shows Ralf Ackermann , the creator, slowly typing his way to external Bluetooth keyboard glory. The video oddly doesn’t show the letters as he is typing so we remain skeptical, but who are we to judge? Ackermann states in his blog entry that this can be done on all jailbroken iPhones, and that it uses a packaged application so “bits and pieces are not exposed to the end-user.” The keyboard works with all applications that use the touchscreen keyboard. Most users are fairly accustomed to the touchscreen keyboard by now, but imagine how much more work most users could get done with an external keyboard. Whether or not this is real, it’s not available to the general public. Just let the images sink in and you will at least be able to sleep a little easier tonight knowing someday this will be possible on your iPhone. [via Engadget ]

Best Buy Discounting iPhones This Week

Sunday, February 22nd, 2009

Have you recently had a hankering to replace that old mobile phone with an iPhone 3G? Well, Best Buy has you covered. This week, (2/22-2/28) Best Buy is offering up to $100 discounts on certain iPhone models, but you must be a Reward Zone member as of yesterday. No signing up just to get the discounts for you! The discounts are valid for regular Reward Zone members and Premier Silver members. Regular members can save $50 on both iPhone models, bringing the price down to $149 for the 8 GB and $249 for the 16 GB. Premier Silver members can save $100 on both iPhone models. That’s $99 for the 8 GB and only $199 for the 16 GB. Of course with all of these great savings customers must expect some fine print. The offer is only available in-store. All purchases require in-store activation, a two-year contract and are limited to one iPhone per customer. The offer is only good for new iPhones as well, refurbished models are excluded. To put the icing on the cake, offers are not available in all stores and are not valid for “Early Upgrade” customers currently under contract with AT&T. To sum it up, if you are looking to switch to the iPhone 3G and are a Best Buy Reward Zone member, you now have more options. Just make sure you read the fine print. [via MacRumors ]

Paper Bags Help Party Trampoline Go Live

Sunday, February 22nd, 2009

It was only a couple of weeks ago when we first reported on Obama Trampoline getting denied from the App Store because it defamed public figures. The developers decided to go back to the drawing board and found an odd solution to their problem. Party Trampoline , the rebranded version of Obama Trampoline, places paper bags over the offending political figure’s heads to ensure that there wouldn’t be anything left for Apple to consider objectionable. Paper bags probably weren’t developer Swamiware’s first choice, but they did have a completely finished game to make available to the public. Party Trampoline is exactly the same as Obama Trampoline. The goal is to bounce the characters on a trampoline in an attempt to pop balloons to gain points and clear the stage. The game is currently priced at $2.99 at the App Store. To add a bit of comedic relief to this ridiculous situation, Swamiware put this disclaimer in their description: The following politicians do not appear in this product: Barack Obama, Rudy Giuliani, Mike Huckabee, Duncan Hunter, John McCain, Ron Paul, Mitt Romney, Tom Tancredo, Fred Thompson, Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, Chris Dodd, John Edwards, Mike Gravel, Bill Richardson, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and Sarah Palin. It is good to see that the developers took their initial rejection so well. [via Pocket Gamer ]
